A list of the “Radio AAHS Top 20 Countdown” in the inaugural (March 1995) issue of the network’s short-lived magazine, shows the eclectic mix of music. Number one was a cover of the Fine Young Cannibals song, She Drives Me Crazy, as recorded on the album Muppet Singalong by Kermit and Miss Piggy. The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Theme was #4, while two original songs by the Olsen twins, I Just Can’t Wait To Be King (from The Lion King soundtrack), a song for kids by Janet and Judy, and actor Jim Carrey’s version of Cuban Pete rounded out the list.

Network programming began with a morning show, The All-American Alarm Clock (which was introduced by the Craig Taubman song, Good Morning at the top of the hour from 6 to 11 EST), and continued with music throughout the day, as well as a feature of News for Kids, skits, jokes and stories. Advertising revenue came from sponsors such as Disney, Mattel and General Mills. During 199596, the

Nhl History: New York Rangers

The New York Rangers were formed on the heels of the success of another New York hockey team, the New York Americans of the NHL.  The Americans had proven that hockey could be successful in New York, leading Madison Square Garden president G.I. “Tex” Rickard to want to bring another team into the Garden.

The team was initially known as the New York Giants, but the media referred to them as “Tex’s Rangers.”  Rickard took the name and ran with it, formally adopting it and placing on the team’s uniforms.

The Rangers enjoyed great success in their early years.  They won Stanley Cups in each decade from the 20s to the 40s, winning three in all.

In 1942, the New York Americans folded, making the Rangers the only hockey team in New York.  From 1942 until 1967, the Rangers were one of six teams left in the NHL.  The six teams would be forever known as the “Original Six.”

The Rangers were not very successful during the Original Six era.

Felix the Cat

Felix’s origins remain disputed. Australian cartoonist/film entrepreneur Pat Sullivan, owner of the Felix character, claimed during his lifetime to be its creator as well. American animator Otto Messmer, Sullivan’s lead animator, has more commonly been assigned credit in recent decades. Some historians argue that Messmer ghosted for Sullivan. What is certain is that Felix emerged from Sullivan’s studio, and cartoons featuring the character enjoyed success and popularity in the 1920s.

In the early 1920s Felix enjoyed enormous popularity in popular culture. He got his own comic strip (drawn by Messmer) beginning in 1923, and his image soon adorned all sorts of merchandise such as ceramics, toys and postcards. Several manufacturers made stuffed Felix toys. Jazz bands such as Paul Whiteman’s played songs about him (1923′s “Felix Kept On Walking” and others).

By the late 1920s with the arrival of sound cartoons Felix’s success was fading. The new Disney shorts of

NHL Betting: Odds to Win the 2011 Stanley Cup

Fresh off their first championship since 1961, the Chicago Blackhawks opened at 5-1 as betting favorites in 2011 Stanley Cup odds. Chicago is not only deep but also young and it stands to figure that they will be a top contender for years to come. Chicago also has exceptional management and coaching and ownership is committed to winning. Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals opened at 13-2 at online sportsbooks. Washington was the President’s Trophy champions in 2010 as the best regular season team and will be a popular choice. Their playoff loss to Montreal in April was one of the true shockers in recent years.

Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins are another 13-2 choice in 2011 Stanley Cup odds. Pittsburgh made the Final in both 2008 and 2009, winning the latter. The Penguins must shore up their defense and goaltending, much like the Capitals. The top seed in the Western Conference the past 2 years was the next choice in NHL betting

Comedy benefit a hit for The Bridge Center!

BRIDGEWATER, MASS.

A star-studded evening of comedy and music along with a good old fashioned auction helped raise more than ,000 for The Bridge Center, a non-profit recreation center based in Bridgewater, Massachusetts that serves children with developmental, physical and emotional disabilities.

Ernie Boch, Jr. hosted the April 13th benefit held at Boston’s Wilbur Theatre. In addition to performances by Boch’s group, Ernie & the Automatics, five of Boston’s funniest comedians—Patty Ross, Chris Tabb, Paul Nardizzi, Paul D’Angelo and Paul Gilligan—had the near-capacity crowd in stitches.

“This was a phenomenally entertaining night,” said Ron Benedetti, a member of The Bridge Center’s board of directors. “And when you consider the amount of money we raised and the number of children and families who benefit, it’s safe to say Comedy Night was a big hit.”

In addition to comedy and music, the

History of the Buffalo Sabres

History of the Buffalo Sabres

The Buffalo Sabres are a professional ice hockey team in the National Hockey League.  They have been with the NHL since 1970.  The Sabres, along with the Bills of the NFL, are beloved among western New Yorkers but both teams have been on the wrong end of many of the most devastating losses in sports history, causing many to believe in the Buffalo Sports Curse.

The Sabres, along with the Vancouver Canucks, began play in 1970.  Given its northern location and proximity to Canada, Buffalo had become a hotbed for hockey and was a logical destination for a professional team.  The first owners were Seymour Knox III and Northrup Knox.

The first two seasons of the Sabres’ history were highlighted by the drafts of center Gilbert Perreault in 1970 and winger Rick Martin in 1971 and the late-season trade for winger Rene Robert late in the 1971-72 season.  Perreault set a record for rookies by scoring 38 goals in his first year.  The record
